Since its establishment in 2019, VESO has remained committed to improving the lives of vulnerable communities across Tanzania through sustainable development initiatives. One of our major milestones is the successful implementation of a climate resilience and livelihood improvement project funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP).
This project was implemented to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable rural communities by promoting climate-smart agriculture, environmental conservation, improved water management, sustainable irrigation, and income-generating activities. Through community participation and practical training, VESO empowered local communities to become more resilient to the impacts of climate change while enhancing food security and economic opportunities.
Raised community awareness on climate change, environmental conservation, adaptation strategies, and sustainable natural resource management.
Trained community members on climate-smart farming practices and sustainable agricultural technologies.
Improved access to safe and clean water through successful borehole drilling within Birise Village.
Installed a solar-powered pumping system supporting reliable irrigation throughout the year.
Established small-scale irrigation schemes that enable vegetable production and improve household nutrition.
Introduced beekeeping and other income-generating activities to diversify household incomes.
Measured metrics from the Birise Village Climate Adaptation Project
The successful completion of the Birise Village Climate Adaptation Project demonstrates VESO's commitment to empowering vulnerable communities through sustainable development initiatives. The project has strengthened food security, improved access to clean water, promoted renewable energy solutions, enhanced agricultural productivity, and created new economic opportunities for local families.
Together with development partners, donors, volunteers, and local communities, we continue to build resilient and sustainable livelihoods across Tanzania.
