Shinyanga Sustainable Drip Irrigation & Water Security

Shinyanga region faces persistent drought conditions. This project introduces solar-powered groundwater wells connected to communal crop fields using gravity-fed drip irrigation. Farmers learn conservation tillage, mulching, and cultivation of drought-tolerant sorghum, cassava, and pigeon peas to secure household feeding.
Project Objectives
  • Drill 3 solar-powered boreholes.
  • Set up 10 hectares of drip irrigation systems.
  • Train 300 farming families in drought crop selection.
Key Achievements
  • 2 boreholes completed and pumping clean water.
  • 6 hectares of irrigation lines laid.
  • Water committees trained in operational maintenance.
